Hi! I’m Matthew Tinoco. I’m a multi-platform journalist from Los Angeles, California.
I am an experienced writer who is deeply familiar with the history, politics and people of my hometown Los Angeles, California, and more generally the American West.
I am an independent reporter for broadcast, podcast, and web.

Previously, I covered housing & homelessness for the Los Angeles NPR affiliate 89.3 KPCC & LAist.com. My reporting broadcast regularly in America’s second largest media market, and lead local discussion on the issue. I also produced broadcast work for The California Report, Marketplace, NPR, and other nationally syndicated programs.
I have contributed writing to local publications like Curbed Los Angeles (R.I.P.), LA Weekly (R.I.P.), the L.A. Review of Books, and national outlets like CityLab, Mother Jones, Politico Magazine, Quartz, VICE, Jezebel, and others.
I’ve also worked as a fact-checker, mostly for Mother Jones Magazine, but also other online news outlets.
I live in Central Los Angeles, where I am the fourth generation of my family to sit in traffic on the Hollywood Freeway. I grew up in North Hollywood, but some of my childhood was also in the Antelope Valley and Ventura County suburbs. I was lucky enough to attend USC.
Unless otherwise noted, I took all the photos on this site (probably on my phone), and reserve their copyright.
